Venezuela experiences five consecutive earthquakes in eastern region

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Investigations (Funvisis) recorded a sequence of five consecutive earthquakes on Sunday, August 23, primarily impacting the eastern coastal and island regions of the country.

The strongest tremor occurred at 1:47 a.m. with a magnitude of 4.5 Mw and a depth of 20 km. Its epicenter was located 36 km southeast of La Tortuga Island and 60 km northeast of Boca de Uchire.

Following the initial event, four additional tremors were detected: - 2:08 a.m.: 4.1 Mw, located 75 km north of Güiria at a depth of 105 km. - 2:10 a.m.: 3.4 Mw, located 56 km north of Güiria at a depth of 13.7 km. - 5:30 a.m.: 3.1 Mw, located 65 km southwest of Granada. - 7:05 a.m.: 2.5 Mw, located near Guanoco and Yaguaraparo.

Authorities have not reported any material damage or casualties resulting from these movements along the Caribbean and El Pilar fault lines.
