Venezuela economy grows as oil sector expands through new international deals

Venezuela is experiencing significant economic shifts driven by its energy sector and manufacturing. According to the Central Bank of Venezuela, the country's GDP grew by 7.14% in the second quarter of 2026, marking 21 consecutive quarters of growth. This expansion was primarily fueled by a 9.1% increase in oil activity.

In the energy sector, PDVSA has signed new production and service agreements to boost output. These include a production participation contract with Hunt Oil for the Caro and Carisito fields, and a framework alliance with SLB for integrated reservoir studies. Currently, Venezuela produces approximately 1.25 million barrels of oil per day, with exports to the United States accounting for about half of that total.

Parallel to the energy boom, the private manufacturing sector grew by 8.1% in the first half of 2026. However, industrial growth faces significant hurdles, including excessive taxes, electricity failures, and limited access to foreign currency. Reports indicate that companies lost an average of 214 working hours due to power outages during the second quarter.
