Venezuela faces severe electricity rationing and power outages
Venezuela is experiencing widespread electricity rationing, with power outages lasting between 6 and 16 hours in various regions. In states such as Zulia, Táchira, Mérida, and Aragua, residents report significant disruptions to daily life, affecting health centers, schools, and businesses. In Lara, the teachers' union Sinvemal reported that students and educators are arriving to classes exhausted due to nighttime blackouts.
In Sucre, the local Chamber of Commerce warned that outages are reducing weekly working hours for businesses by up to 40%, threatening food preservation and economic stability. Residents in Cumaná have expressed frustration over the lack of official schedules, making it difficult to plan essential activities.
The political party Primero Justicia has called for the dissolution of the state electricity company, Corpoelec, citing corruption and centralism. They proposed decentralizing the system by restoring regional electricity companies to improve service stability and accountability.
