Venezuela: Families demand release for PDVSA-Obrero detainees

Families and legal representatives of individuals involved in the “PDVSA-Obrero” case are demanding substitute liberty measures for those still in detention. While approximately 76 people have reportedly been released, lawyers state that dozens of individuals remain imprisoned across Anzoátegui, Carabobo, Falcón, Distrito Capital, and La Guaira.

Defense attorney Zimarú Fuentes has denounced procedural irregularities, suggesting the case shares patterns with those involving political prisoners. The defense also highlighted urgent medical needs for several detainees, specifically mentioning Larry José Moya and Renier Macetti, who reportedly face severe health complications.

The legal process has faced significant delays. Reports indicate that the prosecutor who initiated the investigation, Jean Karín López Ruiz, is currently missing following accusations of corruption. Opposition leader Tomás Guanipa has called for international intervention to assist in the release of the detainees, citing institutional damage within the judicial system.
