Venezuela political prisoner families march to Miraflores Palace
Families of political prisoners in Venezuela marched through Caracas toward the Miraflores Palace to demand the immediate release of detainees and better medical care for those with serious illnesses. Despite a massive security deployment involving the National Police and National Guard, a small delegation from the Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CLIPPV) managed to reach the presidential perimeter to deliver a formal petition.
Representatives of the committee, including Andreina Baduel, Hiowanka Ávila, and Sairam Rivas, reported feeling “deceived” after being promised a meeting with a presidential commission, only to be received behind a glass window for a few minutes. They criticized the lack of courtesy from officials and the perceived lack of political will to fulfill previous release announcements.
In a separate development, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has opened a dialogue with families of Colombian nationals detained in Venezuela. Officials expressed concern regarding reports of citizens held without formal charges or active judicial processes, promising continued consular assistance and diplomatic efforts to secure their release.
