The food basket for a family of five in Venezuela reached $755.36 in August 2026, according to reports from the Center for Documentation and Social Analysis of the Venezuelan Teachers' Federation (Cendas-FVM). This represents a 3.77% increase in dollar terms compared to July, when the cost was $727.89. In bolívares, the cost rose by 12.5% during the same period.
The report notes that the monthly cost includes 60 essential products such as cereals, meats, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, the calculation incorporates an estimated $12.47 for bottled water consumption due to local supply failures.
The rising cost of living stands in stark contrast to the national minimum wage, which has remained frozen at 130 bolívares (approximately $0.16) since March 2022. Cendas-FVM highlights that the official minimum wage covers only 0.02% of the required monthly food basket. While the government provides two monthly bonuses totaling approximately $240 to public workers, these payments are made in bolívares and do not contribute to social benefits or labor liabilities.
