Venezuela gifts Belgian Malinois rescue dog to Mexican military
Venezuela's interim president Delcy Eloína Rodríguez presented a Belgian Malinois puppy to General Alejandro Gómez Vargas, commander of the Mexican Army’s Yumare humanitarian aid group, as a token of gratitude for Mexico’s assistance after the double earthquake that struck Mexico on 24 June. The donation, made in Caracas, also included two additional Venezuelan dogs, Sol and Sara, which will be trained by the Mexican military police’s training centre from August to December to assist in urban search‑and‑rescue operations. The gesture mirrors Turkey’s 2023 gift of a rescue dog to Mexico following the loss of the Mexican rescue dog Proteo, underscoring the growing bilateral cooperation in disaster response between the two nations.
