Venezuela guarantees school continuity after earthquake damage

Venezuela's Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, has guaranteed that no student will lose their school year following structural damage caused by a recent double earthquake. The seismic events affected more than 900 educational institutions across the country.

To address the damage, the Ministry is implementing a contingency plan involving the rezoning and relocation of students, teachers, and administrative staff to available public infrastructure. Rodríguez noted that the plan will utilize existing capacity by implementing double shifts in schools that currently only operate during a single session, allowing them to accommodate a larger number of students.

Additionally, the Minister announced a policy of administrative flexibility regarding school enrollment. He stated that no student will be denied enrollment due to missing documentation, such as birth certificates, identification, or previous grades. Parents are encouraged to formalize registrations immediately, with the government promising to update missing files during the administrative year.
