Venezuela healthcare system faces critical emergency

Venezuela's public health system is facing a critical emergency characterized by deteriorating infrastructure, a lack of medical supplies, and a significant shortage of personnel. According to Dr. Pedro Fernández of the organization Médicos Unidos de Venezuela (MUV), the disappearance of primary and preventive care services has forced patients to seek help only when illnesses have reached advanced, life-threatening stages.

The crisis is compounded by a massive exodus of medical professionals, with reports indicating the loss of more than 21,000 doctors. This shortage, combined with a lack of basic maintenance for hospital infrastructure and insufficient investment, has left the system operating without proper oversight or adequate resources to manage community health risks.
