Venezuela holds agro-productive council to address climate and food security

The Venezuelan government held its second Agro-productive Monitoring Council to facilitate dialogue with agricultural unions, including the Unión Nacional Campesina ‘Ezequiel Zamora’. Led by Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands Vladímir Padrino López and Minister for Food Carlos Leal Tellería, the meeting focused on correcting value chain distortions and managing the impacts of the ‘El Niño’ phenomenon on production cycles.

Authorities emphasized the need for adaptive agricultural practices to mitigate climate crisis effects. Additionally, officials discussed the first phase of the National Bovine Herd Characterization Plan, a data collection initiative intended to support Venezuela’s application for international certification as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease. The government also noted that current reviews of food import licenses are aimed at protecting domestic production.
