Venezuela hospital implements novel cryoablation for trigeminal neuralgia
Medical specialists at the Ciudad Hospitalaria Dr. Enrique Tejera (CHET) in Valencia, Venezuela, have performed a novel treatment for chronic facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia. Led by neurosurgeon Armando Morales, the team utilized cryoablation of the trigeminal nerve.
This procedure involves freezing the nerve ganglion where motor and sensory structures are stored to control painful discharges. During the outpatient procedure, the patient remained conscious, allowing the multidisciplinary team to monitor pain levels and ensure the technique was applied correctly. This method serves as an alternative for patients who cannot undergo traditional open surgery.
