Venezuela humanitarian aid faces 60% funding gap after June earthquakes

International aid agencies say the humanitarian response in Venezuela is severely under‑funded following the twin earthquakes on 24 June. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) reported that only 39 % of the required resources have been secured, leaving a deficit of about 40 % of the total needs. Around 1.3 million people now require assistance, nearly double the pre‑quake figure. NRC director Elena Vicario warned that “the number of people requiring humanitarian aid rose to 1.3 million, almost double the pre‑quake need.” The United Nations‑coordinated response plan, originally designed for 6.2 million people over six months, must now be expanded to cover the additional demands, but funding shortfalls threaten the continuation of operations on the ground.
