Venezuela implements cargo vehicle restrictions and bridge lighting upgrades
The National Institute of Land Transport (INTT) has announced a temporary suspension of cargo vehicle circulation weighing 3,500 kilograms or more across Venezuela. The restriction is scheduled to begin at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, and will remain in effect until 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, in observance of the Day of Indigenous Resistance.
Exemptions to this restriction include vehicles transporting essential goods, such as food, medical supplies, medicines, fuel, and strategic materials for basic services. Authorities have urged transport companies and drivers to plan ahead to ensure road safety during the holiday period.
In Zulia state, Governor Luis Caldera has launched a project to completely reconstruct the lighting system on the General in Chief Rafael Urdaneta Bridge (Puente sobre el Lago). The project involves installing 270 new 300-watt LED lamps across the 8.6-kilometer structure, replacing wiring, and upgrading electrical panels. The work is expected to be completed by October 24.
In coordination with the Ministry of Transport, officials are also evaluating the implementation of stricter weight and height controls for heavy cargo passing through the bridge to protect the infrastructure and prevent accidents.
