TransMilenio security guard killed during fare evasion dispute

A 27-year-old security guard, Cristian Garzón, was fatally stabbed while performing his duties at the Terreros station of the TransMilenio system in Soacha, Cundinamarca. The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, September 18, 2026, when Garzón, an employee of Top Guard Ltda., intervened to prevent a man and a woman from entering the station without paying the fare.

According to reports, the individuals reacted violently to the intervention, and Garzón was struck with a knife while attempting to protect a female colleague. Despite being rushed to a medical center, he succumbed to his injuries. Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán confirmed the death and announced that the two suspects have been captured by the police and are facing judicial proceedings.

The tragedy has reignited concerns regarding the safety of transit workers and the prevalence of violence related to fare evasion within the TransMilenio system.
