Venezuela inspects strategic Punta Perret lighthouse in Zulia
A commission from the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Border Affairs Office inspected the strategic Punta Perret lighthouse in Zulia state. The inspection, conducted on August 25, 2026, aimed to evaluate binational dynamics and reaffirm territorial sovereignty.
The lighthouse is located in Castilletes at the northwestern tip of the La Guajira peninsula, near the border with Colombia. It serves as a critical navigational guide for both civil and military maritime traffic entering and exiting Lake Maracaibo via the Gulf of Venezuela.
The visit also included the supervision of geographic landmarks at the Castilletes Border Establishment and the Cocinetas Lagoon sector. The lighthouse structure was recently modernized and reinaugurated on August 9 following technical efforts involving the Zulia State Government, the Bolivarian Navy, and the Office of Hydrography and Navigation (OCHINA).
