Venezuela issues August social bonuses amid high food costs
The Venezuelan government has begun distributing the August Corresponsabilidad y Formación bonus, totaling 142,500 bolívares. Based on the Central Bank of Venezuela's official exchange rate, this amount is approximately 179.24 USD. Additionally, the Somos Venezuela bonus of 4,190.60 bolívares (roughly 5.27 USD) was released. These payments are part of a series of at least nine different bonuses distributed through the Patria Platform during August 2026.
Concurrently, economic data from 15 Venezuelan cities indicates that staple food items like beef ribs for soup and hard white cheese have become significant expenses, accounting for over half of the total basic food basket cost on average. Beef ribs average 7.17 USD per kilo nationally, while hard white cheese averages 7.06 USD. While some items like rice and pasta have seen price decreases in USD terms, the high cost of protein remains a primary driver of household expenditure.
