Venezuela launches initiative to modernize 400 community radio stations

The Venezuelan government has launched the ‘Ruta de la Comunicación Popular’ (Popular Communication Route), an initiative aimed at modernizing and strengthening more than 400 community radio stations, print media, and digital platforms across the country. Announced by Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, the Sectoral Vice President of Communication and Culture, the program includes the distribution of technical equipment such as microphones, cameras, televisions, and antennas, alongside specialized audiovisual training.

The initiative coincides with the 24th anniversary of the Ministry of Popular Power for Communication and Information (Mippci). The ministry, established in 2002, focuses on directing national communication policies and managing public media systems. Officials stated that the program seeks to support the exercise of freedom of expression and the democratization of communication as enshrined in the national constitution.
