Venezuela launches livestock plan to boost cattle exports

Venezuela is implementing a National Livestock Characterization Plan to strengthen the cattle industry and pursue international certification. In the Lara region, specifically Palavecino, authorities have begun a regional effort to characterize over 380,000 head of cattle and 3,800 properties, including buffalo, goat, and sheep sectors. This initiative uses digital statistical surveys to create a real inventory and georeference production units.

The primary goal of these efforts is to obtain certification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination. Achieving this status is considered essential for opening Venezuelan meat products to international markets in the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.

In support of these objectives, José Labrador, Vice President of the National Federation of Cattle Ranchers (Fedenaga), has proposed a Master Plan focused on education, credit, vaccination, and disease certification. The plan aims to unify the sector and improve genetic strengthening of the national herd to facilitate long-term export capabilities.
