Venezuela launches recovery plan for Golfete de Coro
Venezuelan authorities have launched the Recovery, Mitigation, and Development Plan for the Golfete de Coro, a strategic marine estuary in Falcón State. The initiative involves the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, and PDVSA, alongside military and environmental officials.
The plan aims to address environmental sanitation, ecological mitigation, and economic compensation for local fishing families. Minister of Fisheries Juan Carlos Loyo stated that the strategy is designed to support approximately 5,000 direct fishers and their families. Following directives from President Delcy Rodríguez, the development process will rely on the traditional knowledge of local fishing communities rather than purely theoretical models.
Technical inspections were conducted in coastal areas such as Punta Caimán and Salinita to assess affected marine ecosystems. Local fishing representatives have expressed support for the measures, noting the importance of balancing productive sustainability with the region's strategic energy infrastructure.
