PDVSA targets 1.3 million barrels of daily oil production via international alliances

PDVSA has announced a strategic roadmap to increase oil production to 1.3 million barrels per day this year, with a target of 1.5 million barrels per day by 2027. This plan relies on bilateral understandings between Caracas and Washington to develop 17 strategic fields through partnerships with international private operators. These projects involve approximately 65 billion barrels of proven reserves and are expected to attract over $100 billion in private investment.

To support this growth, PDVSA is focusing on the Orinoco Belt, which contains 270 billion barrels of the nation's 303 billion barrel total reserves. The development of these “green field” areas will require significant infrastructure improvements, including roads, bridges, and electrification. The company also plans to modernize operations using artificial intelligence, remote monitoring, and automated systems, supported by a partnership with General Electric to optimize energy efficiency.

Separately, the National Association of Journalists (CNP) has raised alarms regarding media restrictions in Venezuela. The organization reports that 62 news portals are currently blocked and approximately 70% of radio stations operate without valid legal concessions. The CNP noted that while there are currently no journalists detained, seven individuals remain under precautionary measures, which they argue limits full freedom of the press.
