Venezuela medical experts warn of respiratory rise and health crisis

Medical specialists in Venezuela are raising alarms regarding the country's deteriorating sanitary conditions and a rise in pediatric respiratory cases. The Venezuelan Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (Sovetorax) has announced its XXXIV National Congress and the XI National Congress of Pediatric Pulmonology, scheduled for October 1-3. The event aims to address the risks of “immune debt” in children following the COVID-19 pandemic and provide updates on pneumonia, asthma, and advanced diagnostic tools.

In a separate development, medical representatives met with Dinorah Figuera to advocate for the inclusion of the public health crisis in national dialogue tables. Experts from the National Academy of Medicine and the Venezuelan Society of Public Health highlighted critical issues including declining life expectancy, hospital bed shortages, and malnutrition. They are calling for a formal recovery plan for the healthcare system, with a specific focus on child health, maternal care, and vaccination policies.
