Venezuela commemorates Day of Indigenous Resistance
Venezuela is observing the Day of Indigenous Resistance, a holiday established in 2002 to honor the cultural heritage and historical struggle of the nation's original peoples against colonization.
In Zulia, the government allocated 1.2 million dollars in funding to 121 indigenous communes to support community projects and public services. Various regions reported commemorative activities, including cultural acts in Valencia and El Socorro, where students performed traditional dances and sang the national anthem in the Warao language.
In Iribarren, officials inaugurated a monument to Cacica Ana Solís and rehabilitated local plazas. Across the country, indigenous leaders from the Kariña, Guayú, Inga, and Warao communities emphasized the importance of preserving ancestral traditions, languages, and rights through rituals and educational initiatives.
