Venezuela oil exports face bottlenecks despite high U.S. demand
Venezuela is currently producing approximately 1.25 million barrels of oil per day, with over 500,000 barrels daily flowing to U.S. refineries. These American facilities are specifically designed to process Venezuela's heavy crude grades. To support this extraction, the U.S. also sends more than 100,000 barrels of naphtha per day to Venezuela.
However, Venezuela's oil export revival is facing significant logistical hurdles. Aging port infrastructure, frequent power outages, and equipment failures have created a de facto export ceiling. Tankers are reportedly facing delays of up to 30 days to load crude, particularly at the Jose terminal, which handles about 70% of the country's exports.
Despite rising production and international demand, PDVSA and its partners have struggled to push exports beyond the 1.25 million barrels per day mark. These bottlenecks are causing disputes over demurrage charges and crude quality, complicating efforts to boost energy supplies.
