Venezuela opposition monitors prisoner releases and asset repatriation

The negotiating commission of Venezuela's 2015 National Assembly is monitoring the release of political prisoners following announcements by the government's Peace and Coexistence Program. While 131 releases were announced, opposition groups and Dinorah Figuera, who leads the dialogues, have called for greater clarity and the full liberation of all detainees. Reports indicate that as of August 21, approximately 105 releases had been verified, while over 453 individuals remain detained.

In a separate discussion regarding national assets, constitutionalist Rafael Simón Jiménez suggested that Dinorah Figuera should prioritize the repatriation of capital allegedly stolen by former ministers Tareck El Aissami and Rafael Ramírez. Jiménez argued that recovering these funds, which are reportedly held in locations such as Spain, Switzerland, and Andorra, would be a more viable path than attempting to recover Venezuelan gold currently held in the Bank of England, noting that the stolen assets significantly exceed the value of the gold in London.
