Venezuelan police officers arrested for stealing relief funds after La Guaira earthquake

A video released by the director of Venezuela's scientific, criminal and forensic investigation agency (CICPC) shows a police officer removing his uniform, badge and insignia after being detained for stealing money and valuables during rescue operations following the earthquakes that struck La Guaira state. Four officers were identified, arrested, expelled from the force and handed over to the Public Ministry. Residents filmed one officer carrying a bag with US$100 bills taken from damaged apartments; they recovered about US$10,000 and posted the footage online, prompting the investigation. The CICPC statement emphasized that the institution will not tolerate corruption or conduct that harms victims of the emergency.
