Venezuela political leadership responds to US influence
Following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores in Caracas, Venezuelan political leaders Delcy Rodríguez and María Corina Machado have shown reluctance to openly confront Donald Trump regarding his policies toward Venezuela and migrants in the United States.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who previously denounced US military aggression during the operation against Maduro, has shifted her stance. During the UN General Assembly, Rodríguez opted to discuss a future aligned with the three-phase plan announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, rather than utilizing the platform to criticize Washington as is traditional for Chavista leaders.
This shift in rhetoric follows statements from Donald Trump, who claimed authority over Venezuela and suggested that the country’s resources belong to the victors of recent events. The current political climate in Venezuela remains shaped by these US-led interventions and the subsequent transition of power.
