Venezuela political prisoners transferred clandestinely from El Rodeo I

Political prisoners in Venezuela have been clandestinely transferred from the El Rodeo I prison in Miranda to other facilities, including Yare, Fuerte Guaicaipuro, and La Planta. According to journalist Maryorin Méndez and the NGO Red de ex Presos Políticos Venezuela, the transfers involved 53 detainees, including civilians and military personnel, conducted without notifying their families of their exact location or health status.

The transfers reportedly prioritized individuals with severe pathologies and lacerations resulting from suicide attempts. Organizations such as Foro Penal have noted the lack of an official list regarding the whereabouts of those affected.

In a related development, the Organization of Persecuted Political Venezuelans in Exile (Veppex) has warned U.S. immigration authorities that the country's repressive apparatus remains intact despite changes in leadership. Veppex argued that the departure of Nicolás Maduro does not equate to the dismantling of the structures responsible for persecution, urging U.S. judges to evaluate asylum cases based on whether the officials and intelligence agencies responsible for repression still hold power.
