Venezuela power outages cripple industrial production and sales
Industrial and commercial sectors in Venezuela are facing severe economic disruptions due to persistent electrical grid failures. In Carabobo state, the Chamber of Small and Medium Industrial and Artisan Businesses (Capemiac) reports that constant power outages are causing a loss of approximately 140 labor hours per month. María Auxiliadora Ávila, president of Capemiac, noted that manufacturing processes have reached a near-total standstill, with industries operating at an estimated 20% capacity. The use of diesel generators is considered unfeasible for small and medium enterprises due to fuel shortages and high maintenance costs.
In Falcón state, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture reports a significant impact on consumer activity. According to José Ávila, president of the chamber, a survey conducted between May and June revealed that 80% of surveyed businesses experienced a drop in sales, with reductions ranging from 20% to 70%. The health sector reported even steeper declines of up to 80%. These failures, combined with limited consumer purchasing power, continue to hinder national economic performance.
