Venezuela power outages grow longer, opposition warns

The opposition party Primero Justicia (PJ) has reported that power outages in Venezuela are becoming increasingly prolonged, impacting national productivity and quality of life. According to a map shared by the party, nine states, including Miranda and Bolívar, are experiencing daily blackouts lasting between eight and twelve hours. Additionally, twelve states, such as Guárico and Zulia, face outages of five to eight hours per day. Currently, only the Capital District and Amazonas are reported to be without rationing.

In response to the ongoing energy crisis, the Venezuelan government recently signed an addendum with the Argentine multinational IMPSA to resume construction of the Tocoma hydroelectric plant in Bolívar state. The project aims to add 2,640 megawatts to the national grid through the installation of ten generating units. Construction of the Tocoma plant originally began in 2007 but has faced significant delays and remains largely incomplete.
