Venezuela promotes energy potential and economic opening
At the CERAWeek 2026 plenary session, Venezuelan leadership presented a vision for a prosperous and investment-friendly nation, highlighting the country's massive energy potential. Venezuela holds the world's largest proven oil reserves, exceeding 300 billion barrels, and the seventh-largest natural gas reserves globally. Additionally, the nation possesses over 30 of the 60 critical minerals identified by the United States government.
While current production stands at approximately one million barrels per day, there are projections to reach over five million barrels per day given the right investment environment. This expansion would require significant technical and financial commitments from global energy companies.
Concurrently, the potential economic opening between Venezuela and Colombia is drawing significant attention from regional business leaders. At the Global Business Summit 2026 in Bucaramanga, discussions highlighted that Colombian entrepreneurs are closely monitoring Venezuelan economic expectations. This anticipated market integration poses a competitive challenge for local businesses, particularly in border regions like Táchira, as consumers increasingly seek better value and agility in a more open market.
