Venezuela: Protesters demand electoral dates and oil sovereignty

Protests have erupted across Venezuela as workers, labor unions, and leftist organizations demand political clarity and economic sovereignty. In Bolívar state, demonstrators in Puerto Ordaz called for the establishment of a definitive electoral schedule, urging citizens to move beyond being “simple spectators” in the political process. These protesters also highlighted deteriorating living conditions, specifically citing low wages and frequent failures in water and electricity services.

In Caracas, leftist groups including the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) and the Socialist Workers League (LTS) mobilized to denounce foreign control over the nation's energy resources. Following a military intervention in January, these organizations claim that crude oil export revenues are being deposited into United States Treasury accounts and that new hydrocarbon legal frameworks favor Western corporations. Protesters characterized the current management of the oil industry as a form of “colonial domination” and called for the restitution of national sovereignty over the country's primary wealth.
