Venezuela quake response boosted by Starlink kits and mobile alert apps

Starlink has delivered more than 1,600 low‑orbit satellite connectivity kits to Venezuela to support rescue teams, medical personnel and humanitarian organisations in the areas hardest hit by the twin earthquakes of 24 June. The kits, deployed in partnership with local operators Digitel and Movistar, help restore emergency communications and keep hundreds of thousands of people connected while traditional networks are down.

The earthquakes have caused at least 3,811 deaths, 16,740 injuries, left 17,907 people without homes and rescued 6,462 individuals. Technology also played a crucial role in warning and coordination: Google’s Android early‑warning alerts gave many Venezuelans seconds to seek safety, and a range of earthquake‑monitoring apps such as Earthquake Network, My Earthquake Alerts and MyShake provided real‑time information. During and after the shocks, messaging tools like WhatsApp, Telegram and Zello, as well as location‑sharing services, helped families and responders communicate when networks were saturated or offline.
