Venezuela ranks last in 2026 Economic Freedom of the World index
Venezuela has ranked last in the world in the Economic Freedom of the World 2026 index, according to the report presented by CEDICE Libertad in collaboration with Canada's Fraser Institute. For the second consecutive year, the country occupies the 165th position out of 165 jurisdictions evaluated, earning a score of only 2.94 out of 10.
Venezuela's score places it below other low-ranking nations such as Zimbabwe (3.62), Sudan (4.16), Libya (4.29), and Myanmar (4.44). The index measures economic freedom through 46 components across five areas: government size, legal system and property rights, monetary stability, international trade freedom, and regulation.
The report highlights that Venezuela's position is driven by institutional weaknesses in areas such as property rights, predictable rules, and monetary stability. In contrast, Hong Kong leads the global ranking with 8.53 points, followed by Switzerland, Singapore, New Zealand, and the United States. Within Latin America, Chile (20th), Guatemala (26th), Costa Rica (28th), and Peru (45th) are among the highest-ranked economies.
