Venezuela repatriates 387 citizens from the United States in two flights
A total of 387 Venezuelan citizens were repatriated from the United States via two flights, numbered 176 and 177, as part of the Gran Misión Vuelta a la Patria program. The aircraft landed at the General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport in Barcelona, Anzoátegui, rather than the country's main terminal in Maiquetía.
The use of the Barcelona airport follows recent seismic activity on June 24 that damaged the infrastructure at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía. Repatriation flights had been temporarily suspended due to these earthquakes but resumed on August 3.
The return of these migrants is conducted under a bilateral migration agreement established between Caracas and Washington in January 2025. This mechanism remains in place despite ongoing political tensions between the two nations. Upon arrival, repatriated individuals undergo identity verification, medical checkups, and socioeconomic evaluations to assist with their social reintegration.
Additionally, the UNHCR High Commissioner, Barham Salih, recently met with Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodríguez in Caracas to discuss migrant return and reintegration efforts following the recent natural disasters.
