Starlink Provides Free Internet to Earthquake‑Stricken Venezuela
On June 24 2026 two powerful earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) struck Venezuela, killing at least 235 people and injuring thousands. The disaster crippled electricity and telecommunications, especially in the states of La Guaira, Yaracuy and surrounding areas.
SpaceX’s satellite‑internet service Starlink announced that all existing and new customers in the affected zones will receive free service until 25 July 2026. The benefit is applied automatically to active accounts, credits are granted to cancelled users, and damaged terminals can be replaced at no cost. Starlink is also deploying additional terminals to restore connectivity for hospitals, rescue teams and families.
Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez publicly thanked Elon Musk and the Starlink team for the support. In a related humanitarian effort, Argentina’s mobile operator Personal offered free roaming data, unlimited WhatsApp and 120 minutes of international calls to Venezuela during the emergency.
