Venezuela recorded 1,101 protests in September

The Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict (OVCS) documented 1,101 protests in Venezuela during September, averaging 37 demonstrations per day. This figure represents a 489% increase compared to the 187 protests recorded in September 2025.

Electricity failures were a primary driver of the unrest, accounting for 531 protests. Many of these, specifically 376 instances, occurred at night due to prolonged blackouts, voltage fluctuations, and transformer failures. These outages impacted water systems, food and medicine preservation, and domestic appliances.

Economic, social, cultural, and environmental rights constituted 83% (911) of the total protests, focusing on essential services and living conditions. Civil and political rights accounted for 17% (190) of the demonstrations, including demands for the release of political prisoners and electoral guarantees.

Geographically, Lara state recorded the highest number of protests with 96, followed by Anzoátegui (91), Carabobo (88), Portuguesa (88), and Zulia (81). The OVCS also reported that 28 protests were repressed across 11 states, with Zulia recording the highest number of such incidents at nine.
