Venezuela records 133 road deaths in June, motorcyclists hardest hit
The Venezuelan Observatorio de Seguridad Vial reported 133 fatalities and 351 injuries from 312 traffic accidents nationwide during June. Motorcyclists were the most affected group, with 81 deaths and 152 injured riders. Excessive speed was identified as the leading cause, involved in 188 of the accidents, followed by driver inexperience in 65 cases.
The victims were predominantly young adults; people aged 19‑30 accounted for 53 of the deaths and 111 injuries, representing a significant loss of productive age. Gender breakdown showed 112 male and 21 female fatalities. Motorcycles comprised 265 of the 484 vehicles involved, more than half of the total fleet recorded in the incidents. Rosibel González, coordinator of the observatory, emphasized the “constant bleed of talent” among the country’s workforce.
These figures highlight ongoing road‑safety challenges in Venezuela, with speed and motorbike vulnerability remaining critical concerns for policymakers and public‑health officials.
