Venezuela reports 122 seismic events in one week

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis) reported significant seismic activity across Venezuela during mid-August 2026. On Saturday, August 15, two tremors were recorded: a magnitude 3.2 earthquake near Los Roques at 1:35 a.m. and a magnitude 2.5 tremor near La Guaira and Los Altos Mirandinos at 6:37 a.m.

A weekly report covering August 7 to August 13 detailed a total of 122 seismic events nationwide. Magnitudes during this period ranged from 1.5 to 4.2. The central region experienced the highest concentration with 72 events, all under magnitude 3.0, followed by 38 events in the west and 12 in the east. One tremor reached a magnitude between 4.0 and 4.9 during that week. Funvisis emphasized that earthquakes cannot be predicted and urged the public to maintain preparedness and self-protection measures.
