Venezuela repression: The case of Carmen Navas highlighted

The story of Carmen Navas has been highlighted as a symbol of the human impact of political repression in Venezuela. Navas passed away shortly after learning that her son, Víctor, died while in state custody following a disappearance lasting more than a year.

The organization Vente Venezuela released a video detailing the case to demonstrate the personal toll of the country's political persecution. The organization stated that the policy of repression has resulted in thousands of victims and destroyed families, emphasizing that these individuals are “not figures. They are lives. They are families. They are stories that we cannot forget.”

The case was presented during a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to bring international attention to the victims of the Venezuelan crisis and to demand justice for those detained, disappeared, or deceased under state custody.
