Venezuela requires $21 billion for earthquake recovery

Venezuela requires up to $21 billion for recovery following the devastating earthquakes on June 24, according to a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA). The study, led by the Venezuelan government in collaboration with the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Bank, estimates that the seismic events of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 caused $14.831 billion in damages and losses across seven affected states.

The funds are intended to support reconstruction, resilience, and risk reduction. The assessment was presented to acting President Delcy Rodríguez by Michelle Muschett, the UNDP Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In response to the crisis, the Teletón Venevisión 2026 “Unidos por Venezuela” fundraising campaign has launched to support humanitarian efforts. Managed by Dividendo Voluntario para la Comunidad and certified by EY, donations will be directed toward three critical areas: medical care for amputees through the Fundación Hospital Ortopédico Infantil, the reconstruction of schools within the Fe y Alegría network, and immediate humanitarian assistance via Cáritas de Venezuela.
