Venezuela says Tren de Aragua dismantled after leader 'Niño Guerrero' killed

A joint operation by Venezuelan forces and the United States in the mining state of Bolívar resulted in the death of Héctor Guerrero, known as “Niño Guerrero,” the long‑time leader of the transnational criminal group Tren de Aragua. Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello declared that the gang had been “expelled” from the country, stating “Aquí no había Tren de Aragua. El Tren de Aragua fue echado de Venezuela.”

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Southern Command executed a “rapid and lethal” strike that successfully eliminated the target, confirming cooperation with Caracas. Officials have long described Tren de Aragua as one of Latin America’s most powerful criminal networks, involved in extortion, kidnapping, human‑trafficking and drug trade. While some authorities claim most members have already left or been captured, security analysts warn that removing a single leader does not guarantee the group's dissolution, noting the presence of intermediate commanders and cells that may continue operating.
