Colombia and Venezuela implement agricultural transition and cocoa support plans
The Colombian government has announced a plan to replace 50,000 hectares of coca crops with oil palm plantations. This strategy, presented by Agriculture Minister Indalecio Dangond, aims to provide productive alternatives and strengthen institutional presence in regions like Catatumbo and Tumaco. To support this transition, the government will offer incentives, manage national resources, and work with Finagro to provide credit with favorable terms for farmers.
In Venezuela, Nestlé Venezuela, through its SAVOY brand, is marking its 85th anniversary by distributing 86,000 plants and trees to strengthen sustainable cocoa production. This initiative, part of the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, includes 80,000 cocoa plants and 6,000 shade, fruit, and forest trees to benefit 354 producers. The program aims to improve agroforestry systems and increase resilience against extreme weather conditions.
Additionally, the cocoa sector in Tumaco, Colombia, was highlighted at the ChocoFest 2026, where local producers showcased the quality and diversity of their products to national and international buyers through business rounds.
