Venezuela supermarket sector reports 93 new store openings in 2026

The National Association of Supermarkets and Self-Services (ANSA) reported that 93 new supermarket stores have opened in Venezuela so far in 2026. This figure exceeds the 66 openings recorded during the entirety of 2025, with projections suggesting the country could reach 100 new establishments before the end of the year.

ANSA president Ítalo Atencio noted that fiscal incentives and investment stimuli are contributing to an increase in per capita consumption. Current market data shows a wide variety of products available, including 46 brands of corn flour and 50 brands of rice.

Consumption indicators for 2026 show an upward trend in several categories. Annual per capita chicken consumption has risen to 32 kilograms, compared to 20 kilograms in previous periods. Other consumption metrics include 30 kilograms of corn flour, 22 kilograms of rice, 12 kilograms of pasta, and 12 kilograms of beef per person, though beef protein is the exception to the rising trend.
