Venezuela survey shows dollar preference and high voter interest
A recent survey by the organization Poder y Estrategia reveals significant trends regarding economic preferences and political engagement in Venezuela. According to Ricardo Ríos, the director of the consultancy, 80% of respondents prefer to receive their income in US dollars. However, the study indicates that 51% of citizens would choose to be paid in the national currency, the bolívar, if it maintained its value and purchasing power equivalent to the dollar.
Regarding political participation, the study found a high level of interest in potential regional elections. Approximately 67% of Venezuelans expressed being “very willing” or “willing” to vote in regional elections, should a new National Electoral Council (CNE) convene them. Ríos noted that this figure is notably high compared to the historical participation rate of approximately 50% for such processes.
Additionally, the economic data shows that 89% of participants spontaneously expressed their monthly income in US dollars, even when not prompted to use a specific currency, suggesting a deep cultural integration of the dollar into the country's daily economic language.
