Venezuela to demolish 39 buildings in La Guaira after earthquakes

Following the June 24 earthquakes, Venezuelan authorities have conducted 63,179 infrastructure inspections across seven states. Francisco Garcés, head of the Presidential Commission for Infrastructure Habitability, reported that 36,698 buildings were classified as green (safe), 14,900 as yellow (requiring moderate repairs), and 11,561 as red (uninhabitable and requiring immediate evacuation).

In the state of La Guaira, the most severely impacted region, the government has announced the demolition of 39 buildings due to critical structural damage. Debris from these demolitions will be processed at the Caraballeda Transient Disposal Center, an eight-hectare facility capable of processing 600 tons of material per hour under environmental protection protocols.

To assist with recovery, Venezuela has signed a contract with the U.S.-based engineering firm Miyamoto International. The first phase of this agreement involves the removal of three million metric tons of debris and includes the exchange of technical knowledge to strengthen construction standards and disaster prevention protocols in the country.
