Venezuela urban transport fares set at 200 bolívares
Starting September 1, urban transport fares in Venezuela have been adjusted to a minimum of 200 bolívares. This change follows a monthly indexation agreement reached in May between transport unions and the national government, fixing the rate at the equivalent of 0.25 US dollars based on the official Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) exchange rate.
For suburban and interurban routes, fares vary by distance, ranging from 280 bolívares for trips up to 10 kilometers to 990 bolívares for distances exceeding 90 kilometers. The current policy maintains a 50% discount for students and total exemption from payment for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
In response to the rising costs, some transport representatives have proposed a monthly transport bonus of approximately 30 US dollars for public employees to help offset the impact of the monthly indexation on household budgets. Users have expressed concern that the frequent adjustments, coupled with a frozen minimum wage, significantly strain personal finances.
