Venezuela urged to lift NGO restrictions after June earthquakes

UN‑appointed independent experts called on Venezuelan authorities to remove legal, administrative and banking obstacles that impede civil‑society organisations in the aftermath of the 24 June earthquakes. The experts highlighted that NGOs are essential for locating missing people, caring for victims and distributing aid, and that current regulations requiring re‑registration and tighter financial supervision are delaying and jeopardising relief efforts. They urged the government to facilitate the flow of resources, including cash transfers, and to allow NGOs to operate without undue constraints so that recovery and reconstruction can proceed effectively.
