Venezuela-US trade grows 113% in H1 2026 driven by oil

Bilateral trade between Venezuela and the United States surged by 113.45% during the first half of 2026, reaching a total of $9.529 billion, according to data from the United States International Trade Commission (USITC).

This growth was primarily driven by the energy sector. Venezuelan oil and refined product exports to the U.S. rose by 170%, totaling $6.434 billion and accounting for approximately 98% of all Venezuelan exports to the American market. Consequently, Venezuela recorded a trade surplus of $3.602 billion for the period, a significant increase from the $613 million surplus reported in the first half of 2025.

In contrast, non-oil exports from Venezuela to the U.S. experienced a decline of 15.83%, totaling $132 million. Major non-oil categories included organic chemicals, coffee, tea, and spices.

Separately, vessel-tracking data indicated that Venezuela's crude oil shipments to the U.S. reached a seven-year high in July 2026, averaging 786,000 barrels per day.
