Venezuela USDT premium rises above 800 bolivars on Binance P2P

The price of Tether (USDT) on Binance’s peer‑to‑peer market in Venezuela jumped from about 690 bolivars per USDT to over 800 within a month, a rise of roughly 16% and a gap of around 35% compared with the official dollar rate of 590 bolivars. The surge reflects intense demand for dollar exposure as the central bank’s hard‑currency allocations dwindle and new limits cap individual purchases at $1,000 per month.

Bolivar liquidity has expanded dramatically, with the central bank reporting a 23% weekly increase in circulating bolivars and a 131% rise since the start of the year. Shortages of physical dollars in banks and strict foreign‑exchange caps have pushed households, small businesses and vendors to use Binance P2P as the primary channel for acquiring USDT, effectively bypassing official controls. Analysts warn that any regulatory crackdown on crypto on‑ramps could disrupt this informal financial conduit, while the premium itself may self‑adjust if it climbs too far above the black‑market dollar price.

Crypto observers note that the Venezuelan case mirrors other high‑inflation economies where stablecoins serve as a pragmatic store of value, highlighting the growing role of digital dollars in economies with constrained monetary systems.
