Venezuela women's basketball team beats Chile to open AmeriCup 2027 qualifiers
The Venezuelan women's national basketball team began its South American qualifying campaign for the 2027 FIBA AmeriCup with a 62‑51 victory over Chile in Zárate, Argentina. Coached by Luz Vargas, the squad built an early lead through strong interior play and disciplined defense. Daniela Wallen led the effort with a double‑double of 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, while Génesis Rivera added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Brianna Herlihy contributed 13 points and Estefani Fajardo scored 10. The win secured Venezuela’s first‑place position in Group B and set up a next match against Brazil on 6 August. The game also marked the international debuts of several Venezuelan players, including Valeria Montero and Astrid Inojosa.
